On March 3, 2025, the 110 Grade 6 learners embarked on an exciting educational tour at the La Trinidad Regional Fish Farm (LTRFF) of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), where they gained firsthand knowledge about aquaculture. The tour provided a unique opportunity for the students to explore the significance of fish farming, understand sustainable fishing practices, and develop life skills that they can apply in the future.
Renowned resource speakers, Mr. Hector M. De Guzman and Mr. Allan Dela Cruz, guided the learners through various interactive activities. The session began with a Brief Introduction to LTRFF, where the speakers gave an insightful overview of the fish farm’s history, area, and operations. This introduction helped the students appreciate the role of LTRFF in fish production and sustainability.

One of the highlights of the tour was the discussion on Fish Species Cultured at the facility. The learners discovered various fish species grown in the farm, including their unique characteristics and ecological importance. This session sparked curiosity and appreciation for aquatic biodiversity.
The tour became even more engaging with a Feeding Demonstration, where learners observed and assisted in feeding the fish. They were taught proper feeding techniques and the nutritional requirements essential for healthy fish growth. Through this hands-on experience, the students gained a deeper understanding of responsible fish care.

Another exciting activity was the Eggs and Fingerlings Collection, where participants learned the process of collecting and nurturing young fish. They also witnessed a Harvesting Demonstration, where they observed the proper techniques in collecting eggs and fingerlings efficiently. These activities helped students grasp the importance of maintaining healthy fish populations for food security and environmental balance.
A crucial aspect of fish farming is maintaining a healthy aquatic environment, which was demonstrated during the Water Quality Management session. Learners participated in a live demonstration of water quality monitoring, understanding the significance of clean and balanced water conditions for fish survival and growth.

The educational tour was organized by the HELE 6 teachers Ms. Alicia D. Rivera and Mr. Harvey Martinez in collaboration with Mrs. Irene Tanyag, BFAR officer and Mr. Hector De Guzman BFAR- LTRFF Manager proved to be a highly enriching experience for the Grade 6 learners. They were elated with the life skills they acquired and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of their learning adventure. This immersive experience at LTRFF not only deepened their knowledge of aquaculture but also instilled in them a greater appreciation for sustainable fish farming practices.
