As a former student of the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES), Ms. Maria Luz Nieveras is privileged to share her involvement in the recent Literary Outreach Program, which took place on April 20, 2024, at the Pinsao Proper Barangay Hall. It has greatly impacted her personal development and equipped her to make significant contributions to society.
Looking back on her past experiences at UBLES, Ms. Nieveras participated in a range of activities that not only improved her academic abilities but also cultivated a strong feeling of social obligation towards her community. At UBLES, she acquired knowledge not just through theoretical learning but also through practical experiences that instilled in her a sense of accountability and compassion toward others.
Participation in the Literacy Outreach Program was one of those experiences that had the most impact on her life. That is, from storytelling sessions, interactive games, arts, music, and dancing; Ms. Nieveras has witnessed how education can transform young lives, thus giving them hope to believe in themselves. In this event, she was able to demonstrate face-painting skills to several people from different walks of life.
Being involved in such outreach activities as an alumna has taught her very important virtues and abilities that guide her both in her personal and professional life. Right from good communication and teamwork to empathy and kindness, the event developed several traits within Ms. Nieveras that are crucial for success in any field of endeavor. The lessons she learned from these friendships will forever be part of her soul, hence having driven her to volunteer her efforts towards making a difference.
Looking forward, Ms. Nieveras will return to her former school and bring with her all the experiences and knowledge that she has acquired over time. It can be through such things as mentorship programs, volunteer initiatives, or alumni networking events among others; therefore, she is poised for maximum involvement that will result in quality excellence within UBLES.
In a word of encouragement to the current UBLES students, Ms. Nieveras would say to take up every learning opportunity presented to you, grow in the process, and make a difference in the world around you. Embrace the core values imbued by UBLES – honesty, doggedness as well as empathy – so that they may guide you throughout your path toward success. And to the UBLES alumni, we are custodians of excellence and service, every single one should keep on encouraging and empowering future generations of leaders to ensure that the UBLES spirit remains alive for many more years to come.
